British Airways Visa – 100,000 miles

About a month ago, Chase introduced a British Airways Visa card offering 50,000 miles after your first purchase and an additional 50,000 miles if you spend $2,000 in the first (3) months. There has been (and continues to be) quite a bit of buzz on the internet regarding this card, including The NYTimes ‘Your Money’ blog asking, ‘The Best Credit Card Sign-Up Bonus Ever?

[Now, before I continue any further – applying for credit cards is a very personal decision, and not every opportunity is right for everyone. Your credit score is arguably one of your most important assets and before taking advantage of this or any other opportunity, please take the time to evaluate your financial position and then decide accordingly.]

Let’s take a look at why this offer is so lucrative by taking a look at British Airway’s Partner Award Travel Chart and a couple of ways to burn through the miles:

100,000 Executive Club Miles can be redeemed for:

- (4) Domestic roundtrip tickets in North America (including Canada and Mexico)

- (2) Roundtrip tickets to Europe

- (2) Roundtrip tickets to the Far East (including China, Japan, S. Korea)

- (1) Roundtrip to Australia – with 20,000 miles to spare (almost enough for a Domestic ticket!)

And for those of you with slightly more discriminating tastes – you can also use the miles to redeem for business and first-class airfares at a slightly higher cost (2 x Miles for Business / 3 x Miles for First)

The fine print of this offer is that it comes with a $75 annual fee, and that in order to get the additional 50,000 miles you must spend $2,000 in the first (3) months.

So, are you ready to apply yet?
